What Is SANAS?
SANAS is the South African National Accreditation Service of South Africa. It was formed from the NLA (National Laboratory Accreditation service) that itself was previously the NCS (National Calibration Service). SANAS oversees the operations of SANAS accredited calibration and testing laboratories regarding the training of personnel and the compliance to procedures, quality systems and international standards such as ISO17025. It achieves this through a system of periodic assessments of the laboratories' quality systems. Technical workshops and conferences are also held throughout the year to act a forum for discussion between the SANAS and the various laboratory management and staff. SANAS also acts as the South African representative to international accreditation organizations in the form of mutual recognition agreements.

More about SANAS Calibration Certificates
Laboratories accredited by SANAS are permitted to issue calibration certificates that carry the SANAS Calibration Laboratory symbol. The symbol indicates that the results recorded on the certificate have been obtained using internationally accepted procedures, by suitably qualified staff using equipment that has itself been calibrated traceable to international measuring standards. A SANAS calibration certificate is accepted by ISO9000/17025 certification bodies and is also accepted by over a dozen international countries including Great Britain, France, Germany and Taiwan. In short, a SANAS certificate assures the user that the calibration results shown on the certificate conform to the highest possible international quality standards.
